“White House Shooting Suspect Identified as California Resident Cole Tomas Allen”

The individual apprehended in the shooting incident at the White House correspondents’ dinner has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a resident of Torrance, California, and a possible graduate from Caltech. The suspect, around 31 years old, is believed to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton hotel where the incident occurred. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

Social media posts linked to Allen indicate that he was recognized as “Teacher of the Month” by C2 Education in Torrance in December 2024. His LinkedIn profile describes him as a mechanical engineer, computer scientist, game developer, and teacher.

Having obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Caltech in 2017 and a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2025, Allen’s educational background aligns with the information provided in his profile.

According to Caltech, a graduate with the same name finished their studies in 2017. Allen’s work history includes roles as a part-time teacher at C2 Education, a self-employed game developer, and a former mechanical engineer at IJK Controls. Additionally, he served as a teaching assistant at Caltech for a period.

The suspect was armed with a shotgun and was taken into custody after firing at a Secret Service agent outside the ballroom where President Donald Trump and other dignitaries were present. While the target of the attack remains unclear, President Trump suggested that he might have been the intended target. Trump referred to Allen as disturbed, alleging that he had written a manifesto with anti-Christian sentiments, and mentioned that Allen’s family had raised concerns with law enforcement previously.
