Keera Melenhorst netted two goals in the opening half as Ottawa Rapid came from behind to defeat Calgary Wild 5-2 in the Northern Super League match over the weekend. Melanie Forbes, Florence Belzile, and Choo Hyo-Joo also found the net for Rapid, leveling their season record to 1-1 after a previous loss to Halifax Tides.
Meggie Dougherty Howard and Taegan Stewart scored for Calgary Wild, who remained winless at 0-2 after a defeat to Montreal Roses. Despite initially leading 2-1, Wild fell behind Rapid 4-2 by halftime. Ottawa dominated possession at 59% to Calgary’s 42% at TD Place Stadium, but were outshot 13-12 by the visitors, with 8 shots on target to 6. Both teams earned three corner kicks, and Ottawa received the lone yellow card in the game.
In their next matches, Ottawa will face Vancouver Rise, while Calgary Wild will host Montreal Roses on May 16. In another game, Montreal Roses secured a 4-0 victory over Vancouver Rise with goals from Tanya Boychuk, Elyse Bennett, and Noemi Paquin. Anna Karpenko kept a clean sheet for Roses, who maintained a perfect record of 2-0. Vancouver dropped to 0-2 despite having more possession at 56% compared to Montreal’s 44%.
