U.S. President Donald Trump has taken measures to adjust the national security tariffs under Section 232 by signing a proclamation. The White House announced that starting from June 8, the tariffs on certain steel and aluminum derivative products will be reduced from 25 per cent to 15 per cent. This adjustment includes specific agricultural machinery and residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.
According to the statement from the White House, mobile industrial equipment like bulldozers and forklifts will now face a 15 per cent tariff when imported from trade deal countries eligible for such treatment. Additionally, foreign companies can benefit from a 10 per cent tariff if their capital equipment consists of at least 85 per cent U.S. melted and poured or smelted and cast steel or aluminum.
The changes also introduce two new categories of steel and aluminum derivative import products that will be subjected to 25 per cent duties: steel racks and aluminum lithographic plates. These adjustments will take effect for goods imported or withdrawn from bonded warehouses after 12:01 a.m. ET on June 8 and will be valid until December 31, 2027, with the aim to encourage immediate investments for the nation’s industrial revitalization.
