U.S. artist Chris Brown has admitted guilt to an assault charge related to an incident at a London nightclub three years ago, where he was accused of attacking a producer with a bottle. Brown, 37, and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, appeared at London’s Southwark Crown Court and confirmed their identities and guilty pleas concerning the altercation at Tape nightclub in February 2023.
Initially facing severe charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and the lesser charge of assault causing actual bodily harm to Abraham Diaw, Brown and Akinlolu changed their pleas to guilty for affray, acknowledging the use or threat of unlawful violence that could instill fear in others. The prosecution decided not to proceed with the other charges, and both individuals were granted bail until their sentencing on October 26.
The court could potentially sentence them to up to three years in prison for affray, with Judge Tony Baumgartner indicating that all options are on the table. According to Prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe, the attack involved Brown striking the victim’s head twice with a glass bottle in what was described as a vicious and unprovoked assault in a crowded nightclub.
The Crown Prosecution Service emphasized its commitment to pursuing such cases to uphold the law and ensure accountability. Brown, who was arrested in 2025 upon returning to the UK for the first time since the incident, was initially denied bail, causing uncertainty for his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour. However, he was eventually released after posting a £5 million security fee, enabling the tour to proceed.
After the court appearance, Brown was met with cheers from fans chanting his nickname “Breezy” as he signed autographs and departed in a waiting vehicle.
