Montreal’s newest champions will be parading through the downtown area today to celebrate their victory. The Montreal Victoire, winners of the Walter Cup, will be hosting a fan event at the Quartier des Spectacles. The festivities will kick off with a march along Ste-Catherine Street, followed by players and coaching staff addressing fans at Place des Festivals at 11 a.m. The public event is open to all and is expected to conclude by 1 p.m.
CBC will be providing live coverage of the celebration, which follows the Victoire’s 4-0 win over the Ottawa Charge in the Walter Cup final. This victory marked the first time a Canadian team has claimed the Walter Cup in PWHL history. Montreal secured their win with an impressive performance in the third period, scoring three goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. Goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens achieved a shutout, and team captain Marie-Philip Poulin showcased her leadership on the grand stage once again.
The team also had the honor of signing Montreal’s Livre d’or this week, a symbolic gesture as part of their championship festivities. The event today is anticipated to draw a large crowd as fans come together to celebrate this significant achievement for the franchise and women’s hockey in Montreal and throughout Canada.
