“Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim Escapes Action Amid Misconduct Allegations”

Vancouver’s city council recently decided not to take action against Mayor Ken Sim following accusations of misusing his authority and harassing a fellow council member. The council members aligned with Sim’s ABC party voted against implementing the Integrity Commissioner’s recommendations based on his conduct towards Coun. Sean Orr. In contrast, the other four councillors, including Orr, supported sanctioning Sim, who abstained from voting due to a conflict of interest.

The investigation, conducted by an Integrity Commissioner, focused on a press conference held by Sim at City Hall in April 2025 and a subsequent social media post where the Mayor portrayed Orr in a negative light. The report highlighted that Sim’s criticisms breached the council’s code of conduct by targeting Orr personally rather than upholding the interests of Vancouver’s Jewish community.

While the investigator, Jamie Pytel, suggested that the council request an apology from Sim or consider sanctions, the Mayor disagreed with the findings. Sim argued that his statements were part of his duty to support the Jewish community. Additionally, Sim faces a defamation lawsuit from Orr over claims made during another City Hall press conference where Sim falsely accused Orr of distributing drugs on Christmas Day.
