This marked Toronto’s second win over the Storm this season, with the Tempo now standing at 5-4, while the Storm’s record dropped to 3-6.
Rice showcased her all-around game with six rebounds and an assist, while Mabrey chipped in with three rebounds and four assists. Brittney Sykes was a key scorer for the Tempo, tallying 15 points and converting all seven of her free-throw attempts. Forward Laura Juskaite also made an impact with 14 points and five rebounds.
Natisha Hiedeman stood out for the Storm with 18 points, including three three-pointers, while Jordan Horston added 15 points to their tally. Tempo guard Julie Allemand made a successful return from injury after missing the previous five games due to a groin strain.
Despite missing key players like Temi Fagbenle and Isabelle Harrison due to injuries, the Tempo managed to secure the win. The game saw a competitive first half with the Storm narrowing the gap, but the Tempo surged ahead in the third quarter, led by a crucial steal and layup from Mabrey to Rice, propelling them to a significant lead.
A notable highlight was the Tempo’s impeccable free-throw shooting, going 31-for-31 until late in the game when Teonni Key missed two shots from the foul line. The Tempo’s efficiency from the charity stripe played a crucial role in securing the victory.
