Christine Keilback enjoyed a night out at the movies on Saturday, but the real excitement began when she returned home. As her friends Lynda and Jeff Regan dropped her off at her residence on Lipton Street in Winnipeg’s Wolseley neighborhood around 9 p.m., a sudden incident unfolded.
Keilback disembarked from the car and took a few steps, only to seemingly vanish from sight, leaving the Regans perplexed. They initially assumed she had stumbled and fallen. However, to their surprise, they discovered Keilback’s head and shoulders had disappeared into a hole that had suddenly opened beneath her.
The situation prompted Jeff to quickly find a broom and shovel to assist Keilback. Despite her attempts to climb out, the ground beneath her feet crumbled, leading them to call 911 to prevent further soil erosion.
Responders from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service arrived promptly and skillfully aided Keilback from the hole. She commended their professionalism and kindness, finding humor in the unusual ordeal and expressing gratitude for their assistance.
Fortunately, Keilback emerged unscathed from the incident, feeling more amused than frightened. Reflecting on the experience, she acknowledged her luck in avoiding potential injuries from nearby hazards, including a sharp piece of metal and an old pipe.
The rescue team utilized a frame and winch to lift Keilback to safety, ensuring her secure removal from the hole. Following her rescue, she highlighted the crew’s inclusive approach and their meticulous efforts throughout the operation.
