The Trump administration requested a U.S. court to halt a ruling against the 10 percent global tariff while an appeal is pursued. Recently, the U.S. Court of International Trade deemed the temporary global duties imposed by President Trump as unjustified under a trade law from the 1970s. The court specifically blocked the tariffs for two private importers and the state of Washington, stating that Trump’s implementation of the levies under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 was misguided.
In February, Trump enforced the 10 percent global tariff after the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated certain tariffs he had imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Notably, Canadian exports compliant with CUSMA and bound for the U.S. were exempt from the global tariff. President Trump, reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision on tariffs, announced his intention to move forward with the 10 percent global tariff.
