“Rock League CEO Eyes Olympic Future After Inaugural Success”

Nic Sulsky, the CEO of Rock League, uses vivid comparisons to illustrate the initial phase of his curling project. He likens it to a newborn that has started to walk and now requires training, or a vehicle that has been test-driven and needs real fuel. Sulsky also describes it as a curling game in progress, emphasizing that they are still in the early stages, akin to the fifth rock of the first end.

The inaugural championship was clinched by the Shield Curling Club led by Brad Jacobs, with Switzerland’s Benoit Schwarz-van Berkel emerging as the hero in a thrilling match that extended into extra time in mixed doubles.

Sulsky envisions the 2034 Olympics in Salt Lake City as a pivotal moment for curling. Looking ahead, he suggests a five-week Rock League season next year, with potential for further expansion. He emphasizes the positive impact on the sport of curling and expresses confidence in its potential as a global professional sport based on discussions with investors, brands, and broadcasters.

The Rock League garnered significant viewership in Canada, with over 1.3 million views on CBC social platforms. Sulsky highlights the success of the championship game broadcast, attracting 690,000 viewers despite competing against other major sporting events.

While the Rock League achieved proof of concept in its preview season, Sulsky acknowledges areas for improvement based on athlete and viewer feedback. Plans for the next season include addressing issues such as attendance, venue selection, and format adjustments to enhance the overall experience for participants and fans.

The upcoming Rock League season will feature stops in various cities, introducing new elements like an F1-style standings system and potential player drafts. Despite the league’s progress, Sulsky recognizes that winning a Rock League championship does not overshadow the ultimate goal of claiming an Olympic gold medal.
