The Recording Academy has made adjustments to its regulations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, introducing five new categories. One of these additions is the best Asian pop music performance category, recognizing achievements in K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, and related genres.
Another new category is the best traditional pop vocal performance, for music that doesn’t align with contemporary pop styles. Additionally, a best Latin song category will honor songwriters of predominantly Spanish-languaged Latin songs.
Changes have also been made to the R&B and folk categories. A new award for best R&B collaboration or duo/group performance has been created, alongside a revamped best R&B solo performance category. Folk music has seen a transformation similar to country music, with the best folk album now being the best contemporary folk album, and a new best traditional folk album category introduced.
Apart from the five new categories, adjustments have been implemented concerning the criteria for some nominations. Notably, modifications have been made to the best new artist category, allowing artists to submit up to four times instead of three. This change acknowledges the evolving music landscape, where artists may take time to gain recognition.
The Grammys will now also permit certain qualified members to vote in more categories. In a statement, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed anticipation for the upcoming Grammy Awards, highlighting the industry’s growth and diversity in genres, talents, and innovations shaping the music scene.
