“RCMP Launches Search for Missing Whitehorse Snowmobiler”

Mounties are currently in search of a snowmobiler from Whitehorse who has gone missing near the boundary between British Columbia and Yukon. According to police reports, three individuals embarked on a mission to retrieve a malfunctioning snow machine from the Haines Pass area in northwestern B.C. on Friday. Later that day, around 4 p.m., one of the snowmobilers got separated from the group, prompting the other two to return to the parking lot and await his return.

The RCMP was informed about the missing man by his sister, a resident of Whitehorse, around 10 p.m. the same day. The police emphasized in their statement that the missing individual lacked survival gear or a satellite phone, and the snowy and windy conditions were deteriorating, leading to zero visibility.

Search-and-rescue teams from the RCMP have been strategically positioned in the area since Saturday morning, with helicopter searches being conducted during brief periods of improved visibility. Both B.C. and Yukon Mounties are actively participating in the search efforts, while cautioning against individuals initiating their own search operations.

The authorities have issued a warning, stating that self-initiated searches are extremely perilous and could potentially result in the diversion of RCMP resources to locate additional individuals who may be lost, stranded, or affected by avalanches. They advised individuals to communicate with RCMP officers stationed at various points along the Haines Highway before entering the area.
