“CBC Sports Announces Exclusive CEBL Broadcasting Deal”

CBC Sports and the Canadian Elite Basketball League have revealed the broadcast and streaming lineup for this season. The public broadcaster announced a strategic five-year partnership with the CEBL seven weeks ago. CBC Sports will stream all games live this season, starting on May 9th at 3:30 p.m. ET from the Edmonton EXPO Centre as former Stingers player Xavier Moon returns with the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

The games will be accessible on CBCSports.ca, CBC Gem, and CBC Sports’ YouTube channel. CEBL’s president and CEO, Ty Mazereeuw, highlighted the commitment to delivering top-tier Canadian sport action nationwide with this broadcast schedule. Free access to premier matchups from the pro basketball league will be offered to audiences across Canada.

Moreover, six regular-season matches, conference finals, and the championship series will be broadcast nationally on CBC TV. The national broadcast schedule includes a highly anticipated rematch between the Calgary Surge and the Vancouver Bandits on July 5th at Langley Events Centre, showcasing some of the league’s top rivalries and talent. CBC Sports was the league’s original broadcaster from 2019 to 2022.

The CEBL, featuring 10 teams across Canada, aims to engage fans nationwide, as stated by Mazereeuw in March. Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of Sports and Olympics, expressed excitement about sharing the on-court action with a broader audience and serving local fans in CEBL locations.

The CEBL has seen a 57% increase in its fan base, now at 4.1 million Canadians, with over 50% of fans aged 34 or younger. The broadcast schedule for regular-season games on CBC TV includes several key matchups. The playoff coverage schedule by CBC Sports will be announced at a later date.
