“Tyler Mislawchuk Wins Bronze in World Triathlon Cup”

Tyler Mislawchuk kicked off his season by securing a bronze medal at a World Triathlon Cup held in Chengdu, China, over the weekend. This achievement marked his seventh World Cup medal in his career. Hailing from Oak Bluff, Manitoba, the 32-year-old Mislawchuk, a three-time Olympian, had previously claimed victory at the Tokyo Olympic Test event in 2019 and had earned a bronze medal in the World Triathlon Championship Series.

Expressing his satisfaction, Mislawchuk stated, “You just never know when the next podium will be so I’m going to soak this one in. With six months of off-season, I’m pretty happy with the first hit of the year.” He completed the race in 50 minutes and 16 seconds, securing his spot on the podium. The gold went to Australia’s Luke William in 50:14, with France’s Nils Serre Gehri (50:14) closely following to clinch the silver medal.

Among his fellow Canadians, Liam Donnelly from Campbellville, Ontario, finished eighth, and Martin Sobey from Charlottetown came in 13th. In the women’s category, Isla Britton from Montreal secured the 24th spot, while Sophia Howell from Airdrie, Alberta, finished 37th. The women’s race was won by Germany’s Laura Lindemann in 55:27, with Valentina Riasova and Kate Waugh from Great Britain securing the silver and bronze positions, respectively.

Following their individual races, Mislawchuk, Sobey, Britton, and Howell are set to team up for the inaugural World Cup mixed relay event in Chengdu on Sunday.
