Hockey Canada has announced that it will not participate in the 2026 Spengler Cup due to the inability to reach a new agreement with the Swiss-based invitational tournament. The national governing body revealed that their long-standing agreement concluded after the 2025 event but expressed openness to a potential return in the future.
The Spengler Cup, established in 1923, takes place annually in December and is organized by Swiss club HC Davos. Canada’s involvement dates back to 1984, securing 16 titles since then. HC Davos, the current champions, hold the record for the most wins with 17 titles. Canadian teams at the Spengler Cup have predominantly featured players based in Europe.
