“Former Toronto Mayor John Tory Named TIFF Board Chair”

John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.

Commencing on October 1, as detailed in a recent news release, Tory’s term coincides with this year’s festival, scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in his role in the festival’s evolution.

Additionally, TIFF introduced three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. The organization bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, expressing deep gratitude for her dedication and contributions over the years.
