Tyson Foerster and Matvei Michkov made Flyers history by scoring three goals in rapid succession, setting a franchise record. The Philadelphia Flyers achieved this feat in just 26 seconds during the first period against the New Jersey Devils, with Foerster netting two goals in 17 seconds and Michkov adding one goal. Foerster, a 23-year-old first-round draft pick in 2020, expressed his excitement about the scoring spree, stating that it was a fun experience.
This impressive display by the Flyers ranks as the fourth-fastest three-goal sequence in NHL history. Notable instances include Boston scoring three goals in 20 seconds against Vancouver in 1971, Washington and Chicago achieving the feat in 21 seconds, and the Montreal Maroons taking 24 seconds to score three against the Rangers in 1932. The Flyers had previously scored three goals in 35 seconds during a game against Boston in 1979.
The scoring surge began with the Flyers and Devils tied 1-1 in the first period. Michkov scored his fifth goal of the season at the 12:06 mark, followed by Foerster’s two consecutive goals at 12:15 and 12:32. All three goals were scored at even strength, propelling the Flyers to a 4-1 lead.
The Flyers honored the late Hall of Fame goalie Bernie Parent during the game, which further energized the crowd at the packed arena. Former Flyers star and current head coach Rick Tocchet emphasized the importance of engaging and exciting the fans with a strong performance on the ice.
Foerster’s quick brace of goals ranks as the fourth-fastest in team history, following previous records set by Ron Flockhart, Jeff Carter, and Ron Sutter. Noah Cates provided assists for both of Foerster’s goals, while Bobby Brink and Trevor Zegras added to the Flyers’ lead. Nico Hischier and Timo Meier scored for the Devils.
Flyers’ goaltender Jake Allen stopped 23 shots during the game, showcasing his skill despite the goals conceded. On the other side, Dan Vladar made 32 saves for the Flyers, who allowed the first goal in their seventh consecutive game.
