Britney Spears has recently admitted herself into a rehab facility to address substance abuse issues following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A spokesperson representing Spears confirmed that the 44-year-old singer made the voluntary decision to seek treatment.
The incident occurred on March 5 when California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a BMW driving recklessly on U.S. 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County border. Spears, a local resident, underwent field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for suspected DUI involving a mix of alcohol and drugs. She was later released from custody after a brief period of detention.
The investigation was handed over to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on March 23, with a decision on potential charges expected before a court appearance scheduled for May 4. A representative at the time condemned Spears’s actions as “completely inexcusable” and expressed hope that her entry into rehab would mark the beginning of necessary changes in her life.
Having largely stepped back from her music career, Spears has not embarked on a concert tour in almost eight years and has not released a new album in nearly a decade. In 2021, she regained autonomy over her personal and financial affairs following the termination of a court-mandated conservatorship that had been in place for nearly 14 years. Additionally, she published a successful memoir titled “The Woman in Me” two years later.
The conservatorship was established shortly after Spears completed a rehab program in California back in 2007.
