DOJ Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit Against Trump’s White House Ballroom

The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit hindering President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project, asserting that the opposition is influenced by bias against Trump and highlighting a recent assassination attempt as a reason for the necessity of the ballroom for security purposes.

In a court filing on Monday evening, the Justice Department stated that the thwarted attack at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday underscores the need for a White House ballroom in the interest of national security. The filing emphasized that the lawsuit against the project was unwarranted and only arose due to Trump’s unique capabilities as a real estate magnate.

Legal experts criticized the filing for its resemblance to Trump’s distinctive communication style, suggesting it was inappropriate for a legal document. The Justice Department further criticized the preservationist group behind the lawsuit, labeling them as detrimental to the country and suffering from bias against Trump.

The filing urged U.S. District Judge Richard Leon to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which challenges the legality of the ballroom project. Despite Leon’s previous ruling that Trump lacked the authority to proceed without congressional approval, an injunction halting construction was overturned by an appeals court, allowing construction to continue temporarily.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced its intention to pursue the lawsuit despite the Justice Department’s request to drop it, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law. The individual accused of the assassination attempt against Trump could face life imprisonment if convicted for the incident at the Washington dinner venue.
