Ottawa authorities reported a tragic incident where a young boy passed away following a fall from an apartment window near the University of Ottawa on Laurier Avenue E. on Monday evening. Emergency responders indicated that the boy sustained life-threatening injuries after falling from a significant height close to Waller Street around 6:45 p.m.
The child, described as under eight years old, was discovered with critical injuries next to a building and was swiftly transported to CHEO, Ottawa’s children’s hospital. Unfortunately, the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, as is customary in sudden death cases.
Following the incident, Homestead, the rental company managing the building, communicated with tenants, emphasizing the importance of window restrictors to prevent such accidents. They stressed that the restrictors should not be tampered with and urged tenants to report any issues promptly. Additionally, all windows in the units were scheduled for inspection on Tuesday to ensure compliance with safety measures.
In a statement, Homestead expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended their sympathies to the child, family, and all affected individuals. They reiterated their commitment to prioritizing the safety of everyone in the building.
