NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice to Join Québec Solidaire

Alexandre Boulerice is set to announce his departure from the federal NDP to pursue a provincial run with Québec Solidaire, as per insiders at Radio-Canada. The declaration is anticipated to occur on Monday. Speculation about Boulerice transitioning to provincial politics has circulated for some time. Representing Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie since 2011, Boulerice is the sole remaining NDP MP in Quebec, succeeding the Bloc Québécois who held the seat for almost two decades prior to his 2011 victory. His exit deals a significant blow to the NDP, reducing its House of Commons presence to just five seats out of 343. The Journal de Montréal initially broke the news of Boulerice’s impending move to provincial politics. Boulerice is expected to vie for the Gouin riding in Montreal during the upcoming provincial elections later this year. The current seat holder, former Québec Solidaire co-spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, relinquished his position in March 2025 and declared he will not seek re-election in 2026. Despite consistent support for QS in the Gouin riding since 2012, recent polling data from Qc125 indicates the party trailing at approximately 10% of the vote, positioning it behind other major parties. Projections suggest QS may secure two to eight seats in the upcoming provincial elections, while presently holding 11 seats in the 125-seat National Assembly.
