Montreal Carabins Dominate 60th Vanier Cup Victory

The Montreal Carabins secured a triumphant victory in the 60th Vanier Cup by defeating the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with a score of 30-16. Led by U Sports rookie of the year Pepe Gonzalez, the Carabins showcased a dominant aerial performance throughout the game.

Gonzalez delivered a stellar performance, throwing for 344 yards and three touchdowns to Brandon Gourgon, Hassane Dosso, and Simon Larose. This victory marked Montreal’s third national title, with previous wins in 2023 and 2025.

Following the game, Gonzalez attributed the favorable 6°C weather in Regina to their success, expressing gratitude for the unexpected warmth that helped their preparation. Head coach Marco Iadeluca commended Gonzalez’s exceptional performance, highlighting his composure and the team’s strong defensive display in the second half.

The matchup at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium, a quasi-home game for the Huskies, witnessed the Carabins’ fourth consecutive national championship victory for a Quebec-based program. The win also avenged Montreal’s 2021 national semifinal loss to Saskatchewan.

Despite controversy surrounding a disputed penalty call in the first half, the Carabins maintained their composure and outscored the Huskies 15-5 in the second half. The Huskies, playing without star quarterback Anton Amundrud, struggled offensively, leading to their seventh consecutive Vanier Cup defeat since their last championship win in 1998.

The Montreal Carabins’ triumph not only marked their second title in three years but also denied Saskatchewan a chance at a Canadian football championship trifecta. The victory, celebrated by Carabin fans in Western Canada, showcased the team’s resilience and determination on their path to glory.
