“Vancouver to Host Davis Cup Qualifiers: Canada vs. Brazil”

Vancouver has been selected by Tennis Canada to host the initial round of the Davis Cup Qualifiers between Canada and Brazil. The event will occur on February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre situated on the University of British Columbia campus. The victorious team will progress to the second round of qualifying for the global men’s tournament scheduled for September 2026.

Canada, ranked ninth, will face off against the 18th-ranked Brazil, with Canada having a strong record of winning 10 out of their last 12 ties at home. The last encounter between the two teams was in 2007 during the Group I Americas stage, where Brazil emerged victorious with a 3-1 score.

In recent years, Canada has seen success in Vancouver, clinching victories over Spain and Italy on the path to the 2013 semifinals, and a 3-2 win against Japan in 2015. Canada secured their spot in the 2026 qualifiers following a 4-0 win over Israel in World Group I play last September, amidst protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

Having claimed their sole Davis Cup title in 2022 by defeating Australia in the final, Canada faced setbacks leading to their current qualifying position. They were relegated to the qualifying pool after losses to Germany and Hungary in the 2024 quarterfinals and 2025 first round respectively.

The upcoming tie between Canada and Brazil promises to be a significant event in the tennis calendar, with both teams gearing up to secure a spot in the next round of Davis Cup Qualifiers.
