A powerful tornado wreaked havoc on Pomas village in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and injuring numerous residents. Fortunately, no individuals are reported missing. As of Tuesday morning, 1,400 households in the area were still without electricity, according to the Aude prefecture.
Images captured from social media videos and verified by Reuters show the tornado swirling over Verzeille village, located just east of Pomas. Many houses in its path suffered shattered windows due to the intense winds.
In the aftermath of the tornado, residents in Pomas were seen assessing the destruction and beginning the cleanup process. Photos depict a man standing amidst the debris of a damaged house, the collapsed roof of Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church, fallen trees in a cemetery, and individuals covering a damaged building’s roof with a tarp.
Pedestrians in the area navigate around fallen trees and damaged homes, highlighting the significant impact of the natural disaster. The community is now mobilizing efforts to recover and rebuild in the wake of this catastrophic event.
