Actor and advocate Danny Glover, famous for his role as a laid-back police officer in the “Lethal Weapon” series, has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The four-time Emmy Award nominee, who will celebrate his 80th birthday on July 22, shared with NBC’s “Today” and People magazine that he received the diagnosis of the progressive cognitive disorder three years ago.
Despite grappling with the reality of his condition, Glover expressed his struggle to fully come to terms with it. He emphasized the presence of fleeting moments that affirm his ability to recollect information juxtaposed with unforgettable instances that highlight the impact of the disease.
Alzheimer’s, the most prevalent form of dementia affecting over six million individuals in the United States and a significant number worldwide, including more than 750,000 Canadians as reported by Statistics Canada. Glover’s illustrious career has garnered him four Emmy Award nominations and an honorary Oscar in 2022. Additionally, he has been recognized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Black Entertainment Television, along with receiving nominations from the Screen Actors Guild.
Moreover, Glover’s contributions extend beyond the entertainment industry, as he served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program from 1998 to 2004. His efforts focused on addressing issues of poverty, disease, and economic development in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
