“Village People Lead Singer Victor Willis Dies at 74”

Victor Willis, the lead singer of Village People and co-writer of popular disco hits like “Y.M.C.A.” and “Macho Man,” has passed away at the age of 74. The news of his death was shared on the official Facebook page of the group. Born on July 1, 1951, in Dallas, Willis succumbed to a brief yet aggressive illness on Tuesday.

The announcement on the group’s Facebook page expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Victor Willis. His wife, Karen-Huff Willis, also confirmed his passing on his personal page, urging privacy during this difficult time.

Alongside Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, Willis was a founding member of the Village People and co-wrote hits such as “In the Navy” and “Go West.” Known for their iconic costumes representing police and naval officers, the six-member band gained further recognition when they performed “Y.M.C.A.” at a pre-inauguration rally for former U.S. President Donald Trump in January 2025.
