Israel’s military reported the detention of over 70 suspects in the occupied West Bank during overnight and Saturday operations following violent clashes that resulted in the deaths of four Palestinian villagers and two Israeli soldiers. The soldiers continued their presence in Tell village, located in the northern West Bank, the epicenter of the previous day’s confrontations. Palestinians recounted extensive searches, including a hospital raid in Nablus, known for its high levels of violence.
Recent years have seen a surge in settlement construction in the West Bank under Israel’s government, led by settler proponents, a move widely condemned by the international community as illegal and detrimental to peace efforts.
The director of Nablus Speciality Hospital, Ghassan Barkat, expressed shock as more than 50 armed soldiers and officers stormed the hospital, causing distress among patients. The soldiers reportedly detained and mistreated staff and patients, including the arrest of a seriously injured man, Ali Hussein Ali Ramadan.
While the Israeli military did not specifically mention the hospital raid, they confirmed the detention of individuals linked to Hamas, arms traffickers, and alleged terrorists in over 300 locations.
In a separate incident, conflicting reports emerged regarding settlers entering the off-limits village of Tell, resulting in clashes that led to casualties on both sides. The Palestinian Health Ministry stated that four Palestinians were killed, while the Israeli military confirmed the deaths of two soldiers, including a settler. Additionally, several individuals were injured in the skirmish.
The Israeli military also disclosed the arrest of 11 suspects in Tell as part of the ongoing operations across the West Bank, where over 80 Palestinians were reportedly detained. Palestinian officials criticized these actions as collective punishment against their citizens.
Simultaneously, in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes caused the deaths of at least four Palestinians and injured many others. The strikes targeted various locations, including a hospital, resulting in chaos as wounded individuals sought medical assistance.
Despite a ceasefire agreement in October following a period of conflict between Israel and Hamas, sporadic violence continues to escalate, leading to casualties on both sides. The toll from these recent events underscores the fragile peace in the region, with ongoing tensions and clashes posing significant challenges to stability.
