German authorities have issued a wanted notice for a suspect involved in a van ramming incident near Berlin’s Pride festival. The incident resulted in one fatality and at least 16 injuries. The 21-year-old suspect, identified as Abdul B., is being sought by police for allegedly causing harm with a vehicle on Saturday night. Authorities warned the public to avoid direct contact with the suspect, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
The suspect has ties to Islamic groups in Berlin, according to police spokesperson Florian Nath. The motive behind the attack remains unknown. Police conducted operations in the city, including a search at an apartment in Berlin’s Schöneberg district, but the suspect was not found.
The incident occurred when a white van drove into Tiergarten park around 10 p.m., hitting multiple individuals before crashing into a tree. The Pride festival’s closing party, Christopher Street Day, was taking place nearby at the Brandenburg Gate. A woman was killed in the attack, and several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Following the incident, the Pride event was cancelled, and attendees were urged to leave the area. The attack has been described as an assault on society by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, where World Pride is being hosted alongside local celebrations, authorities are closely monitoring security measures in light of the Berlin incident.
