The International Energy Agency warned of possible flight cancellations in Europe due to dwindling jet fuel supplies. Canada, however, is less affected by supply issues as it relies on domestic refineries for the majority of its aviation fuel production.
Despite local fuel availability, Canada is still subject to global price fluctuations, leading airlines like Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, and Air Transat to consider fare increases or surcharges to offset rising fuel costs. Experts predict that even if the fuel shortage is resolved, airfares are likely to remain high due to past inflation trends. The ongoing crisis is impacting airlines financially, potentially jeopardizing their viability.
