“From Dubai to Regina: A Journey of Transformation”

Upon my initial encounter with Regina, the sun’s warmth and the sight of drifting clouds against the vast sky left me in awe.

Having lived in the bustling metropolis of Dubai, where honking horns and towering skyscrapers dominated my senses, the transition was stark. The constant hum of air conditioning had shielded me from the touch of natural elements.

Yearning for colder climates and snow, I found myself drawn to the idea of embracing a wintry environment.

The prospect of relocating to Canada is a cherished aspiration for many. In the Middle East, obtaining Canadian permanent residency is esteemed, as families grapple with the costs of private education and healthcare. Canada’s reputation for accessible services appears almost mythical in comparison.

However, the reality of this transition unveils unforeseen challenges and sacrifices, unbeknownst to many, including my own family.

In 2022, embarking on this new chapter filled us with anticipation and hope. I envisioned experiences I had only heard of — like wandering through snow-covered fields. These dreams were now within reach.

Yet, Regina’s lack of high-rise structures and its flat terrain initially unsettled me.

Driving from the airport to our accommodation, the worn roads, modest infrastructure, congested streets, and dated vehicles painted a stark contrast to my expectations.

Soon, the absence of extravagant malls and limited dining options dampened my impression of Canada; everything seemed lackluster and disorganized.

Feeling uninspired by the city’s offerings, I opted to remain indoors.

My children immersed in their devices, while my husband grappled with financial strains. Isolated and yearning for companionship, I found myself neglecting my children, lost in my own thoughts.

Recognizing a need for change, I stumbled upon a self-help book in Regina’s public library. This discovery marked the beginning of my journey towards self-awareness and mental well-being.

The book highlighted the perils of overthinking, offering strategies to combat negative thoughts.
