“Daisy Chain Fields Festival Overcomes Controversy, Raises $20M for Women’s Rights”

Olivia Rodrigo’s debut festival, Daisy Chain Fields, garnered acclaim for its exclusively female lineup and its dedication to supporting reproductive rights and combatting gender-based violence. While many vendors had positive feedback about their participation, the festival faced criticism this week from two vendors who claimed to have experienced subpar working conditions and delays in payment.

However, both vendors have now confirmed that they have been fully compensated. Mary Chacon, the owner of Ugly Oats Kitchen, one of the vendors, mentioned in an Instagram update on Wednesday that executives from Daisy Chain Fields proactively reached out to address their concerns and were understanding and committed to resolving the issues.

The one-day festival, held at Great Park in Irvine, California, drew large crowds to witness performances by artists such as Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, and Olivia Rodrigo herself. All performers generously donated their time, and the festival’s proceeds were channeled to support ten organizations focusing on women’s rights, including Planned Parenthood, National Women’s Law Center, Black Mamas Matter, and the National Institute for Reproductive Health.

Initially raising $10 million, the festival’s impact was doubled to $20 million through a matching donation from Melinda French Gates. Over 50 food and beverage vendors participated in the event, with many expressing their enthusiasm for the festival in the days following.

Despite the positive feedback, two vendors shared their discontent with the festival experience. In an Instagram post, Chacon detailed issues with the festival’s organization, including insufficient information on setup, lack of communication about amenities, and delayed payments.

Chacon, a micro-bakery owner, emphasized the financial strain caused by the delayed payment but expressed gratitude for being part of such a significant event. She later confirmed that payment had been received and praised the efforts made by Daisy Chain Fields executives to address the concerns raised.

Another vendor, Por Suerte, also reported payment delays initially but later acknowledged receiving the payment and highlighted the organizers’ openness to feedback for future improvements.

Olivia Rodrigo has not publicly commented on the vendor payment issues. The festival, which championed women’s and reproductive rights, marked a unique approach compared to traditional charity music events. Despite concerns such as a heatwave and traffic congestion, the event’s success has led to plans for its continuation next year.

Rodrigo’s advocacy for reproductive rights has been a consistent theme in her career, with previous initiatives supporting women-focused charities. Following the festival, Rodrigo expressed her immense joy and described the event as a beacon of hope for positive change and a demonstration of genuine care for people’s well-being.
