Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her Brazilian partner, Luisa Stefani, have advanced to the semi-finals at the French Open. The fourth-seeded pair secured a straight-sets victory (6-4, 7-5) over Russia’s Vera Zvonareva and Germany’s Laura Siegemund, who were seeded 11th, in Paris on Tuesday.
Dabrowski, hailing from Ottawa, and Stefani will now face the top-seeded duo of Katerina Siniakova from Czechia and American Taylor Townsend for a chance to compete in the finals at Stade Roland Garros.
In another match, young talent Mirra Andreeva outplayed Sorana Cirstea, winning 6-0, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals for the second time. The 19-year-old Andreeva dominated the 36-year-old Cirstea, who struggled to find her form after a long break from the quarterfinals. Despite Cirstea’s brief comeback in the second set, Andreeva’s strong groundstrokes and strategic play secured her victory.
Andreeva is now set to face the winner of the match between Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk, who has been performing exceptionally well on clay this season.
On the men’s side, Rafael Jodar of Spain fell to second-seeded Alexander Zverev, while Jakub Mensik defeated Brazilian player Joao Fonseca to become the youngest Czech man to reach the semi-finals at a Grand Slam event in the French Open on Tuesday.
