Canada’s national women’s soccer team is set to welcome back key players who have recovered from injuries as they gear up for a training camp in Costa Rica. Head coach Casey Stoney has unveiled a 26-player roster that includes the return of Jordyn Huitema from the Chicago Red Stars, along with defenders Shelina Zadorsky of West Ham United and Gabrielle Carle of Washington Spirit. These players were sidelined in April due to various injuries when the team participated in three FIFA Series games in Brazil.
The roster for the upcoming Costa Rica camp also features new additions like Elisabeth Tse, a defender for the Washington Spirit, and Jordyn Listro, a midfielder from Tampa Bay Sun, who is rejoining the team after being absent since June 2021.
The team is scheduled to convene for the training camp in San Jose, Costa Rica, starting on Sunday, with a friendly match against the host nation in Cartago planned for June 9. The focus of the preparations is on the CONCACAF W Championship in November, a crucial qualifier for both the 2027 World Cup in Brazil and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Stoney expressed optimism about the team’s progress, stating, “We’re continuing to raise our standards every time we come together, and I’m looking forward to seeing this group do that again in this window. This squad gives us a good mix and an opportunity for players to show where they’re at.”
