Macklin Celebrini’s decisive goal in the third period set the tone for Canada’s 5-1 victory over Slovakia in the ice hockey world championship Group A match on Sunday. Celebrini not only scored but also provided an assist, joining Ryan O’Reilly, John Tavares, and Gabriel Vilardi in the goal-scoring and assisting efforts in the final period.
Dylan Cozens initiated the scoring for Canada in the first period, maintaining their unbeaten streak after six matches. Slovakia managed to pull one back with Kristian Pospisil’s goal in the second period.
Canada’s next challenge will be against Czechia in the last preliminary round match on Tuesday before heading into the quarterfinals starting on Thursday. The medal games are scheduled for the following Sunday.
