“Actor Sam Neill Passes Away at 78, Private Memorial Planned”

Actor Sam Neill passed away from pneumonia and will be commemorated at a private family memorial on his farm in New Zealand, according to his agent. The family of the renowned actor, known for his roles in movies like “Jurassic Park” and “The Piano,” had initially announced his death in Sydney at the age of 78.

In a statement, Neill’s agent, Philip Grenz, clarified that Neill succumbed to pneumonia after bravely battling and overcoming lymphoma with CAR-T therapy. Grenz mentioned that Neill had recently completed filming four consecutive projects set for release in the near future.

Due to Neill’s preference for privacy and aversion to attention, his family plans to hold a private memorial at a later date on his New Zealand property. Neill had previously disclosed his battle with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in 2023 and declared himself cancer-free in April this year. CAR-T therapy, a type of immunotherapy utilizing T cells, is commonly used for various blood cancers.

Following Neill’s passing, tributes poured in from colleagues in the film industry who remembered him as a kind, humorous, and inquisitive individual. Director Taika Waititi, who worked with Neill on “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” expressed his love and shared fond memories of their time together.

Renowned director Steven Spielberg, who directed Neill in the iconic “Jurassic Park” series, praised Neill’s collaborative spirit and emphasized his lasting impact on the film industry. Neill, part of the wave of Australian talents that gained global recognition in the late 1970s, received multiple industry accolades, including Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Aside from his acting career, Neill was also known for his winemaking endeavors under the Two Paddocks label in New Zealand’s Central Otago region. Described as a humble and charitable individual by local news sources, Neill’s contributions to community projects and his dedication to his craft have left a lasting legacy.

Sam Neill is survived by his four children and eight grandchildren, leaving behind a rich legacy in the entertainment industry and beyond.
