Alyssa Mitchell, an American entrepreneur with ties to Winnipeg, has made a significant investment in the Calgary Wild, a women’s soccer team in the Northern Super League. She has acquired a 41% ownership stake in the team, which is the only professional women’s sports team in Alberta and one of six teams in the Canadian league that started its second season in April.
Mitchell has joined a group of 36 investors, led by Lara Murphy, the co-founder and CEO, and Deanna Zumwalt, the board chair. Women hold a majority stake of 76% in the club. Mitchell, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, launched the clothing brand DDAM in 2020. Previously, she worked as a strategic operations manager for Baja East and as a brand ambassador for PopSockets.
The Calgary Wild, based at McMahon Stadium, had a record of 9-14-2 in their first year and attracted nearly 4,000 fans per game in 2025. The team started the current season with two losses.
Expressing her support for women’s sports, Mitchell stated, “Calgary Wild FC embodies values such as opportunity, resilience, ambition, and community that resonate with me. I am honored to back this dynamic sports movement, which not only aims to build a competitive team but also strives to foster positive social change and empower female leaders.”
Mitchell will serve as the Wild’s director at NSL meetings. Deanna Zumwalt praised Mitchell’s global business acumen, marketing expertise, and passion for sports, highlighting her valuable contribution to the club’s future and the diverse ownership group’s commitment to empowering young female leaders both on and off the field.
