“Apple Sues OpenAI for Trade Secret Theft”

Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging the theft of trade secrets in the development of hardware for ChatGPT. The legal action claims that former Apple employees, now working at OpenAI, were involved in stealing confidential information. Tang Tan and Chang Liu, named as defendants, are accused of accessing and downloading sensitive files from Apple. OpenAI has denied the allegations, stating they are focused on developing innovative technology.

Apple’s investigation revealed a pattern of theft by former employees who joined OpenAI. The lawsuit details instances where confidential information was accessed and misused. Apple reached out to OpenAI with its concerns but received no response. The tech giant emphasized its commitment to protecting its innovations.

Initially partners, Apple and OpenAI’s relationship has shifted towards rivalry. OpenAI’s recruitment of Jony Ive to lead an AI device project raised competition concerns. OpenAI’s acquisition of io Products, co-founded by Ive and others, led to legal disputes with a tech startup. Apple’s lawsuit names io Products as a defendant.

As OpenAI considers going public, it faces increasing competition in the AI sector. Despite focusing on ChatGPT, OpenAI continues to work on a consumer hardware device, expected to launch later this year.
