“Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee to Assume Second-in-Command Role”

Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, the current Royal Canadian Navy chief, is set to assume the role of second-in-command of the Canadian Armed Forces following the retirement of Lt.-Gen. Stephen Kelsey. This transition was confirmed by the Department of National Defence.

Rear Admiral Dan Charlebois is slated for promotion to vice-admiral and will take over the leadership of the Navy. The information was initially disclosed by the National Post on Tuesday night following an internal communication within the defence staff.

Known for his candid communication style, Topshee has been vocal about how the military’s recruitment and retention challenges are impacting the Navy. Speculation about his appointment had been circulating within the defense community for several months.
