“Fatal Shooting at Calgary Co-op Parking Lot”

A fatal shooting took place in the parking lot of the North Hill Co-op in the northeast part of the city on Monday evening, resulting in the death of one man. Police were called to the scene at 520 16 Ave. N.E. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire just before 8 p.m.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement found two men with gunshot wounds, one inside the store and the other outside. Both individuals were rushed to Foothills Medical Centre in critical condition. Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries, while the other has been upgraded to stable condition and is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday.

Authorities suspect that the shooting was a targeted attack, with three suspects fleeing the area before the police arrived. No arrests have been made yet, but investigators assure the public that there is no ongoing danger. Duty Inspector Darren Smith expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the potential harm to innocent bystanders in a public setting like a grocery store.

The identity of the deceased victim was known to the police, although it remains unclear if the second victim was connected to the deceased. Law enforcement is reviewing CCTV footage from the store and interviewing witnesses to aid in the investigation, which is being handled by the Calgary Police Service’s homicide unit.

The North Hill Co-op was briefly on lockdown for the safety of its employees and customers but has since reopened. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one individual recounting the moment of the shooting inside the store.

The police have asked the public to avoid the area as they continue to examine the crime scene and gather evidence.
