Canadian musicians Michael Buble and Alanis Morissette are set to headline the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Toronto this June. FIFA has revealed that separate opening events will take place in each of the tournament’s three host nations this year.
The Canadian opening ceremony is scheduled for June 12, preceding Canada’s first match against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Joining the lineup of Canadian performers are Jessie Reyez, Alessia Cara, and William Prince.
The 2026 World Cup, spanning across Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will showcase a total of 104 matches from June 11 to July 19. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has described the Toronto ceremony as a representation of Canada’s identity, emphasizing that it will be a moment of national pride and anticipation as Canada steps onto the global football stage.
In addition to the Canadian artists, Katy Perry will headline the ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, before the first U.S. World Cup match. The entertainment lineup for the tournament’s opener in Mexico City includes a diverse group of performers such as Alejandro Fernandez, Danny Ocean, and J Balvin.
All ceremonies are set to commence 90 minutes before the start of each match.
