A new social media trend went viral in Vancouver over the weekend as a large group, primarily composed of young individuals, attempted to enter the Church of Scientology building in the city. The Vancouver Police Department received reports around 3 p.m. that approximately 250 to 300 people were gathering and trying to gain access to the Scientology premises on West Hastings Street at the corner of Homer Street.
According to the police, some individuals tried to breach the back gate, while others threw objects at the officers. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the officers or the public.
After the initial dispersal of the crowd, they returned at around 5 p.m., leading to the temporary arrest of a 16-year-old boy who was later released to his parents. The police stated that no criminal charges are being pursued in this incident.
Sgt. Adam Donaldson emphasized the seriousness of the situation, cautioning that attempting to enter a building unlawfully, damaging property, or assaulting a police officer are criminal offenses that could have serious consequences for the individuals involved.

The recent online trend, known as “Scientology speedrunning,” gained popularity in early April. Participants film themselves swiftly navigating through Scientology-owned properties, striving to gather information on the organization’s inner workings.
Last month, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to multiple incidents related to this trend, prompting Scientology to remove external door handles from its Hollywood Boulevard properties.
Church of Scientology spokesperson David Bloomberg condemned the Vancouver incident, stating that it was not a peaceful visit or lawful protest but a coordinated action to breach the church’s premises. Bloomberg highlighted that Scientology spaces are intended for peaceful use and not as targets for disruptive viral stunts.
Legal expert Kyla Lee warned that individuals participating in such activities could face legal repercussions, including civil consequences and criminal charges for interfering with religious property.
Lee emphasized the importance of respecting religious spaces and refraining from engaging in activities that disrupt the lawful practice of religion. She advised individuals to consider the impact of their actions and to avoid participating in potentially harmful social media trends.
