Blue Jays DH George Springer Injured Again

Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer had to exit Saturday’s 11-4 victory over Minnesota in the third inning following a hit by a pitch on his left foot. This incident occurred just four days after the four-time all-star returned from the 10-day injured list due to breaking his left big toe on April 11 during a game against the Twins.

Manager John Schneider mentioned that X-rays did not reveal any new fractures and the situation was not worse than before, stating that he had already planned to rest Springer the following day. Springer was struck by an 88 mph slider from Connor Prielipp, causing him immediate pain and leading to his departure from the game after receiving attention from trainers.

Having been with Toronto for his sixth season, the 36-year-old Springer has recorded a batting average of .212 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 66 at-bats over 18 games. A key player in the 2017 World Series with Houston, Springer is currently in the final season of a $150 million, six-year contract with the Blue Jays.
