“Ottawa Charge Clinch Final Playoff Spot with 3-0 Win Over Toronto”

Gwyneth Philips made 41 saves as the Ottawa Charge triumphed over the Toronto Sceptres 3-0, earning the final spot in the Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs. Fanuza Kadirova, Sarah Wozniewicz, and Alexa Vasko scored for Ottawa, securing their second playoff appearance. Toronto’s Raygan Kirk stopped 29 shots. Ottawa will now await the playoffs matchup against either the Boston Fleet or Montreal Victoire.

In a must-win game for Toronto to clinch the playoff spot, the Sceptres fell short against the Charge. Ottawa capitalized early in the second period with Kadirova’s goal, shifting the game’s momentum. Despite Toronto’s efforts, Ottawa’s solid defense and strategic plays sealed the victory with goals from Wozniewicz and Vasko.

Montreal Victoire claimed the top seed in the playoffs by defeating the Seattle Torrent 2-1 in a shootout. Lina Ljungblom’s decisive goal secured Montreal’s No. 1 seed for the second year in a row. Abby Roque’s goal and a strong performance by goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens contributed to Victoire’s victory.

In another match, the Vancouver Goldeneyes edged past the Minnesota Frost 4-3 in overtime. Sophie Jaques scored the game-winner for Vancouver, concluding their debut season on a high note. Despite a late comeback by the Frost, the Goldeneyes held on for the win.

The Boston Fleet shut out the New York Sirens 4-0 to end the regular season on a high. Jessie Eldridge’s goal kickstarted Boston’s dominant third period, with Aerin Frankel recording her eighth shutout of the season. Ella Huber, Haley Winn, and Jill Saulnier also found the net for the Fleet, securing a convincing victory.

These results set the stage for an exciting playoff showdown in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
