Toronto police are currently investigating the tragic incident where a six-year-old girl fell to her death from a high level of a North York apartment building on Sunday evening. Authorities were alerted to the situation around 8:15 p.m. at a residence near Chalkfarm Drive and Jane Street. The young girl was discovered by officers after falling from her bedroom window, although the specific floor she fell from has not been disclosed by the police.
While the circumstances do not currently raise suspicions, the investigation is ongoing, according to police spokesperson Amy Davey. A neighbor, Jahlique James, shared that the child resided on the 28th floor of the building. Expressing deep sympathy for the family, James described the incident as heartbreaking and mentioned interactions she had with the girl and her mother in the building.
The apartment tower, part of a complex of four high-rises constructed in the early 1970s, stands at around 30 stories tall, as indicated on the Greenwin property management company’s website. Situated close to Chalkfarm Park, the building is enveloped by expansive parking lots and grass lawns. Responding to the tragedy, Greenwin’s spokesperson, Stephen Adler, emphasized the company’s commitment to safety and cooperation with the police inquiry, extending condolences to the affected family and individuals.
Toronto police have stated that officers will remain at the location until an autopsy report is obtained.
