“Timber Timbre Frontman Taylor Kirk Dies at 44”

Taylor Kirk, the musician known for his work with the band Timber Timbre, has passed away at the age of 44. A spokesperson for Kirk confirmed the sudden death on April 14 to CBC Music. The representative expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating that Taylor will be greatly missed, but his legacy will endure through his music.

Kirk established the folk-noir project Timber Timbre in 2005, debuting with the album “Medicinals” in 2007. The band’s third self-titled album was a nominee for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize, while the subsequent release, “Creep on Creepin’ On” in 2011, made it to the prize’s shortlist. Timber Timbre’s music found prominence in various films and TV series such as “Breaking Bad,” “Russian Doll,” and Sarah Polley’s “Stories We Tell.”

NPR Music described Timber Timbre led by Taylor Kirk as crafting haunting and atmospheric songs reminiscent of late-night sounds from a mysterious forest. The music was likened to the eerie yet captivating tones often found in works by David Lynch or HBO’s unsettling series “True Detective.”

Among the songs performed during Timber Timbre’s Tiny Desk session were “Run From Me” and “Grand Canyon.” Kirk’s latest album with Timber Timbre, “Lovage,” released in 2023, marked his seventh studio album.
