“New Defence Investment Agency Reveals Key Projects”

The newly established Defence Investment Agency has unveiled the initial eight projects it will oversee for the federal government. These projects encompass significant military acquisitions, such as Canada’s upcoming submarine fleet, Arctic over-the-horizon radar system, and a fleet of early warning-and-control surveillance aircraft. Additional projects include providing support and software upgrades for the CC-130J Hercules transport aircraft and procuring satellite communications services. Notably, the agency is not currently handling the procurement of land vehicles or fighter jets.

Managed by former banker Doug Guzman, the agency’s mandate involves managing projects exceeding $100 million in value. The Liberal government was compelled to reveal these projects in documents presented in Parliament following a research inquiry by Conservative MP Scott Anderson. Prime Minister Mark Carney had committed to establishing this agency during the spring election to streamline defense procurement processes and expedite the acquisition of military equipment for the Canadian Armed Forces.
