After completing a record-breaking journey of 406,771 kilometers around the moon, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen and NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch are set to discuss their experiences with the public. The four astronauts will be answering questions from the media at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, at 2:30 p.m. ET today, with CBC.ca broadcasting the news conference live.
Upon their return to Earth last Friday, the astronauts underwent medical examinations and debriefings about their mission. They have also had the joy of reuniting with their families. Victor Glover was warmly welcomed home in League City, Texas, with neighbors lining the sidewalks with flags and signs. Christina Koch had an emotional reunion with her dog, Sadie.
The astronauts were greeted by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman on Saturday at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston. The event was attended by numerous VIP guests, including flight directors, Orion capsule and exploration system managers, high-ranking military officers, and members of Congress. The emotional gathering marked the end of their training and 10-day journey in a small capsule.
Expressing their bond and the challenges faced during their mission, the astronauts reflected on their unique experience. Despite the emotional ride, they acknowledged the privilege of being human and the beauty of planet Earth.
Since their return, the astronauts have resumed work, with Hansen undergoing rigorous lunar surface simulations in a spacesuit as part of post-mission evaluations. Additionally, Hansen announced the winner of the Aqualunar Challenge, a competition aimed at developing water purification solutions for the moon. The Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation, formerly known as the Canadian Space Mining Corporation, claimed the $400,000 prize.
NASA’s plans for accelerating Artemis missions and establishing a lunar base were also discussed, highlighting the importance of their recent journey. During a public speech, Hansen emphasized the collective effort behind their mission’s success, portraying themselves as a reflection of the larger team that made it all possible.
