“La La Land Re-Release: Focus on Ryan Gosling’s Hand Positioning”

The upcoming 10th anniversary of Damien Chazelle’s musical romantic-comedy film “La La Land” is generating buzz, but not for the usual reasons like its cinematography or the iconic ending. Instead, the focus is on Ryan Gosling’s hand positioning in a key scene.

In anticipation of a special re-release in theaters across the U.S. on August 16, Lionsgate Studios revealed a new poster for “La La Land” that addresses a detail that Gosling has expressed regret over. In a 2024 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Gosling admitted that he wishes he could redo his role as jazz pianist Sebastian Wilder in the film.

Gosling recalled a particular dance sequence with co-star Emma Stone where he chose to pose his hand in what he described as a unique manner, which he now believes negatively impacted the scene’s energy. The new poster features a revised version of Gosling’s hand pose, aligning it more closely with Stone’s straight arm and hand positioning.

During the poster unveiling event at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, Justin Manfredi, Lionsgate’s executive vice president of worldwide television marketing, mentioned that Gosling was pleased with the alteration after being consulted. However, not all fans share the same enthusiasm, as some expressed disappointment on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, arguing that the original mismatched poses better conveyed the film’s themes.
