The Vancouver Goldeneyes have secured the services of standout forward Sarah Nurse as the PWHL embarks on its expansion phase. In an announcement on Tuesday, the team revealed that Nurse has inked a two-year deal running until the 2027-28 season, designating her as one of the initial three players Vancouver will safeguard during the league’s expansion proceedings.
Current PWHL franchises have until Wednesday night to finalize their protected rosters before the quartet of new teams in Hamilton, Detroit, San Jose, and Vegas commence recruiting their core players. Nurse was among the quintet of players whom the Goldeneyes enlisted for their debut season in the prior expansion cycle.
The 31-year-old hailing from Hamilton notably netted Vancouver’s inaugural goal and concluded the season with 15 points (comprising nine goals and six assists) despite sitting out 11 games due to an upper-body injury. Prior to her stint with the Goldeneyes, Nurse featured in the first two PWHL campaigns with Toronto, amassing 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) across 45 appearances.
