Montreal’s Kori Cheverie, Ottawa’s Carla MacLeod, and Boston’s Kris Sparre have been named as the top contenders for the 2026 Coach of the Year accolade in the Professional Women’s Hockey League, as announced by the league on Friday.
Cheverie led the Victoire team to victory in the Walter Cup, securing the top spot in the regular season with a record-breaking 22 wins and a 16-game streak without a loss.
MacLeod played a pivotal role in guiding the Charge to a franchise-best 17 wins, notably clinching five victories after trailing in the second period. Ottawa made it to the Walter Cup final but was defeated by Montreal in a four-game series.
Sparre, in his debut season as head coach in the PWHL, steered the Fleet to a commendable second-place finish, securing a playoff spot in a record-fast 24 games.
The recipient of the award will be revealed on June 16 in Detroit. Cheverie claimed the honor last year, triumphing over MacLeod and Toronto’s Troy Ryan.
The 2026 PWHL Coach of the Year award ceremony will be eagerly awaited by fans and players alike.
